ARTIST STATEMENT../beckelheimer/randy-b.html

Everything changes, and yet we navigate our way through the world by relying on the familiar surface appearance of things.  My work searches for visual clues, metaphors and states of grace that might illuminate how the world of solid surfaces can exist alongside or within the ever-present backdrop of impermanence and change.  The intention of my work is to open a window, at least for a moment, where the static experience of a stationery view gives way to the ecstatic possibilities of the ephemeral.

My work is informed by my lifelong interest in the natural world and my early career working on land conservation and restoration projects in the Bay Area and the Sierra Nevada.  I am also inspired by  my  experience  working as a facilitator and trained volunteer with the Zen Hospice Project and my ongoing interest in ornithology, art history and literature.
