The side space features Eileen Starr Moderbacher’s new, small paintings.  In her new series of desert/cacti paintings scale is vital. The smallness of the scenes transform the paintings into miniatures rather than landscapes. They provide a view into the experience of the moment — a left-behind article becomes an artifact.

The detailed compositions activate, nearly crowd every millimeter of the surface. The artist said, “they remind me of Mozart being accused of having too many notes in his compositions.” Here, she hopes this crowded, activated surface heightens the tension of the moment.
