ArtZone is fortunate to be exhibiting Gordon Cook (1927 – 1985) works from the artists’ son’s estate; many pieces have rarely been shown.  Gordon Cook represents a link between the new Introductions group and ArtZone’s roots, the Campbell Gallery, where the program emphasized representational and objective (oil) painters.
Cook was a master printmaker who resumed painting prior to marrying Joan Brown in 1969.  Her influence was more encouragement than instruction.  Cook has been referred to as the Bay Area Morandi (Georgio, 1890 – 1964), an Italian painter known for economical use of color, value and surface.  Cook emerged as a painter who elevated household items to sublime elegance and is revered as a “painter’s painter”.
