Terry Thompson paints old, mainly neon signage that has somehow avoided the wrecking ball – signs that have survived, signs that have lived.  The artist views his subjects as historic and emotional metaphors for beating the odds and standing the test of time.  He renders rust and faded paint to imbue his works with a sense of humanity and history.  Thompson states: “I want my paintings to reveal the hidden beauty in the mundane, the banal and the often overlooked.”

Thompson worked several years as an engineer in Silicon Valley prior to taking up painting full time.  He received a BA (2003, Summa Cum Laude) followed by his MFA in 2005 from San Jose State University, San Jose, CA.  He has exhibited since 2003 and his most recent museum show was this years’ Contemporary Realism Biennial at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne, IN.  The artist is also represented by George Billis Gallery in LA and NYC and b. sakata garo Gallery in Sacramento.  This is his first solo show at ArtZone and we are fortunate to have this talented painter in our stable of gallery artists.  His solo show includes a small selection of Thompson’s photographs – exhibited as a natural evolution from source materials for paintings.
