The organization incorporates Fine Arts in the healing and recovery process at health care institutions around the Bay Area.  The Fair's organizers have planned a Tribute Reception for AfH the evening of Friday May 20, 6-8 pm.  Please come to the Platinum Lounge to celebrate the organization’s 30 years of service.   www.artforhealing.org

ART FOR HEALING:

Lou Pearson, Slab, stainless steel

Independent Curator Hanna Regev’s installation of The Seduction of Duchamp, created in partnership with ArtZone 461 Gallery Director Steven Lopez, pays tribute to Marcel Duchamp’s iconic stature and investigates the influence the artist maintains today on the Bay Area artistic community.  The 4th edition of the Exhibition features Duchamp's most iconic masterpieces and themes revisited by the following artists: Tessie Barrera-Scharaga, Ray Beldner, David Broom, Reuven Itelman, Theodora Varnay Jones, Naomie Kremer, David Middlebrook, Sandra Ortiz Taylor and Jan Wurm.  The installation is open to SFFAF visitors and all pieces will be available for sale at the Fair.   On opening night, Thursday, May 19 at 8:00 pm, David Middlebrook will unveil his piece "A Breath of Fresh Air", created especially for the installation at the SFFAF.

DECONSTRUCTED

KIMONO

Judy Shintani’s Deconstructed Kimono installation represents the premonition of the Japanese devastation that was felt by the third generation Japanese American artist, Judy Shintani several months before the earthquake struck. The initial work pays homage to her ancestors and the loss of her cultural connection.  By cutting out the decorative parts of the kimono, she transforms the garment to represent loss and sorrow. It takes on the appearance of a skeleton, yet still maintains its simple and elegant structure.

The installation, made possible by a collaboration with Hanna Regev Productions, is open to SFFAF visitors. The work is available for sale at the Fair and all inquiries are to be directed to ArtZone461 Gallery.  A portion of the sales proceeds will be pledged to the Red Cross Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
